A Soulful Evening: Sai Symphony Orchestra Performs for A. R. Rahman
On June 30, 2025, A. R. Rahman, the music legend, graced the campus of Sathya Sai Grama in Muddenahalli for a musical evening filled with harmony, spirit and soulful expression. During his visit, he explored the humanitarian initiatives being carried out under the aegis of One World One Family Mission.
The visit provided not just an opportunity to learn about social upliftment programmes, but also to recognise music as a powerful force for transformation. Among the numerous highlights of the day, one unforgettable moment was a special live performance by the Sai Symphony Orchestra, India’s largest home-grown symphony orchestra, comprising children from rural and marginalised communities.
Sai Symphony Orchestra: Music Beyond Boundaries
Under the inspiring leadership of Sri Madhusudan Sai, the Sai Symphony Orchestra was established in 2014 and has since grown into a unique platform that nurtures raw talent from rural India. With over 170 students in its ensemble, this initiative aims to provide formal training in Orchestral music to young minds who might not otherwise have access to such opportunities.
Under the knowledgeable guidance of renowned Greek-American multi-instrumentalist Mr Dimitris Lambrianos, these young musicians are trained in both classical Western compositions and modern cinematic scores. What makes this initiative even more remarkable is that many of these students are first-generation learners from rural households.
The performance was a brilliant display of their talent and commitment. The orchestra performed a diverse and thoughtfully curated selection of global music pieces, such as the classic Pirates of the Caribbean score, Beethoven’s timeless 5th Symphony, and the electrifying Mission Impossible theme. Every note, every harmony, and every crescendo was delivered with precision, reflecting the students’ hard work and the nurturing environment provided by the institution.
The Sri Sathya Sai Premamrutham Auditorium was filled with an electrifying atmosphere as the music filled the air. The audience was moved by the passion and excellence of the performances.

After the performance, A. R. Rahman took a moment to address the young orchestra and audience. He expressed his deep respect for the ensemble, calling it one of the most exciting youth orchestras he had ever seen. He was most pleased by how youngsters from rural and underserved areas were provided with world-class resources, instruments and expert guidance to help them develop their musical abilities.
Rahman spoke about how music, when delivered with authenticity and inclusivity, can be a transformational force for communities. He described the effort as a true human representation of music’s ability to uplift, inspire and bridge gaps across backgrounds and circumstances.

In his speech, Sri Madhusudan Sai acknowledged Rahman’s continuous effort to promote music education for underprivileged communities through his foundation. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to collaborate,” he observed, “as we too have rural children pursuing music as a discipline and as a means to uplift themselves and their communities.”
