In the previous article we learnt that being an example worth emulating is a lifelong
journey, and it requires consistent effort and self-reflection. But what is self-reflection?
Self-reflection is the process of introspecting and examining one’s thoughts, emotions, and actions. It involves looking inward and gaining self-awareness. Through self-reflection, we can gain insights into our strengths, weaknesses, values, and beliefs. It helps us understand our motivations, patterns, and behaviours, and allows us to make conscious choices and improvements in our lives. Self-reflection is an essential practice for personal growth and spiritual development. It helps us align with our true nature and make positive changes.
To practice self-reflection every day, you can set aside dedicated time for introspection.
Find a quiet and comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. Start by taking a few
deep breaths to calm your mind. Then, reflect on your thoughts, emotions, and actions
from the day. Ask yourself questions like:
What went well today?
What challenges did I face?
How did I respond to them?
What can I learn from these experiences?
Be honest with yourself and observe without judgment. Regularly engaging in this practice will deepen your self-awareness and promote personal growth.

To deepen self-awareness, it is helpful to engage in practices such as mindfulness and
meditation. These practices allow you to observe your thoughts, emotions, and
sensations without judgment. By cultivating present-moment awareness, you can
develop a deeper understanding of your inner experiences and patterns. Additionally,
self-reflection exercises, like journaling or having meaningful conversations with yourself,
can help you gain insights into your values, beliefs, and motivations. Seeking feedback from trusted individuals can also provide valuable perspectives. Remember, self-awareness is a lifelong journey, so be patient and compassionate with yourself as you continue to explore and grow.
What matters the most is to ask yourself – ‘Am I a happy person? How many people
around me have found love and happiness because of me today?’ Engaging in one selfless act a day helps us move from ‘I’ and ‘mine’ to ‘we’ and ‘us’; after all we are
interconnected.
