26 August: The Grace of Swarna Gowri – Perseverance and Divine Union
A Morning of Divine Wisdom
The morning of 26 August dawned with the sacred rites of Swarna Gowri Vratha, a profound invocation of the Divine Mother, Goddess Gowri. Devotees, with hearts full of devotion, meticulously followed each step of the rituals, symbolising surrender and purity. Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai unveiled the deeper spiritual meaning behind the celebration. He quoted the Devi Mahatmyam, reminding all that “Ya Devi Sarva Bhuteshu Chetanitya Abhidhiyate… the Goddess resides in all as the very consciousness.”
Sadguru emphasised that the union of Shiva and Parvati transcends a worldly marriage, representing the merging of the individual soul (Jeevatma) with the Cosmic Soul (Paramatma). He powerfully stated, “Parvati won Shiva not through Kama, but through Nama and Tapas. Likewise, a Jivatma has to perform severe austerities to become close to the Paramatma.” He urged devotees not to limit the Gowri Puja to desires for wealth, but to seek God, knowing that all else would follow.
An Evening of Cultural Splendour
The evening blossomed into a vibrant cultural spectacle. It began with a soulful Vedic invocation from the girl students, chanting verses from the Shri Suktam, followed by a video on the significance of Swarna Gowri Vratham. The highlight was undoubtedly the Bharatanatyam dance drama, “Sri Krishna Pareekshanam,” presented by the esteemed Dr Anuradha Vikranth and her team. The performance was a mesmerising portrayal of Krishna as the omnipresent divine energy, beautifully conveying the truth of “Sarvam Krishnamayam – Krishna is present everywhere, within us and around us.”
Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, reflecting on the performance, articulated its profound message: “How Krishna teaches the Gopikas that you can’t just search for him as an individual, but he is in everything, in everyone. Even in your enemy, God exists.” He expressed his joy at seeing this parampara being passed on to the next generation, a testament to the enduring power of Indian spirituality conveyed through art.
27 August: Ganesh Chaturthi – Wisdom, Obstacle Removal, and the Spirit of Giving
Morning Prayers and Ancient Lore
The morning of 27 August heralded Ganesh Chaturthi, commencing with a sacred puja to Lord Ganesha, seeking blessings for wisdom and a smooth flow of all endeavours. The discourse eloquently traced Lord Ganesha’s divine incarnations across the four yugas and the story of Ganesha’s creation from turmeric by Parvati. The significance of avoiding sight of the moon on Bhadrapada Shuddha Chavithi was explained through the tale of the Samantaka Mani. The teaching concluded with a promise: those who worship Ganapati, listen to this story, and perform the ritual of placing sacred akshata will be freed from obstacles and blame.
A Partnership of Compassion
The evening celebrations for Ganesh Chaturthi truly exemplified the spirit of compassion and community. Mr K Satyanarayana Raju, MD and CEO of Canara Bank, and Ms Nalini Padmanabhan, Director, graced the occasion as chief guests. Canara Bank was honoured with the CSR Circle of Honour Award 2025 for its significant contribution to equipping Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (SMSIMSR) with critical medical technology. Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai beautifully articulated the synergy of CSR partnerships, seeing each collaborating organisation as “another pair of hands added to this great body,” making them “even more capable of delivering quality healthcare to the poorest, the last, and the least.”
A Symphony of Devotion
The evening culminated in a spellbinding Hindustani classical recital by the renowned Kashyap Bandhus, Dr Prabhakar Kashyap and Dr Devakar Kashyap. Belonging to a distinguished lineage of musicians, their repertoire of khayals, thumris, dadras, and bhajans, performed with profound depth and devotion, captivated the audience. Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai praised their performance, noting, “It was not just a music programme. They presented music with such devotion and dedication… We enjoyed it. Arjun’s arrows touched us.”
These two days at Sathya Sai Grama, under the divine guidance of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, were a testament to the power of ancient wisdom, vibrant cultural heritage, and unwavering commitment to selfless service.
