Sri Madhusudan Sai Launches New Initiatives at Sai Sanjeevani Child Heart Care Centre, Navi Mumbai

7th August 2024
Sri Madhusudan Sai’s visit to Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care, Navi Mumbai marked the launch of several new initiatives and programs. Since its inception in 2018, the hospital has made a significant impact on the lives of children and their families, earning recognition from the Government of Maharashtra as an apex institute for the referral of congenital heart defects. The event featured talks by students and staff, as well as the certification of fellowship completion for those who had completed their training in Paediatric Cardiology and Public Health.

A New Path Forward
The hospital’s commitment to upskilling youth led to the commencement of courses in Nursing Assistance, providing students from remote rural areas with free education, food, accommodation, and a stipend. This initiative aims to address the known factors contributing to congenital heart defects, such as malnutrition and anaemia in pregnant mothers.

Sai Sanjeevani Research Foundation’s AI-Based Solution for Anaemia Detection
The Sai Sanjeevani Research Foundation unveiled a non-invasive AI-based solution for detecting anaemia in pregnant women. This innovative technology uses AI-powered images captured on a smartphone to estimate haemoglobin levels as well as other parameters.

Integrating Yoga into Healthcare
The evening was filled with a cultural program featuring yoga, dance, and a skit performed by nursing students. The event was graced by Dr. Hansaji Yogendra, Director of the Yoga Institute in Mumbai, one of the oldest organised yoga centres in the world, founded in 1980.

The “Global Little Yogis” book, authored by Mrs. Barkha Sharma, was also launched. This initiative aims to integrate traditional knowledge of yoga into the treatment of children with congenital heart disease before and after treatment, under the guidance of trained yoga experts and paediatric cardiac specialists. Additionally, yoga will be introduced in antenatal care for pregnant mothers across Sai Sanjeevani Mother and Child hospitals to promote better pregnancies, birth outcomes, and holistic development of newborns.
