Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli, January 18, 2024: A momentous gathering unfolded today as cricketing legends from seven nations, namely India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, Australia, and Bangladesh, converged with the spirit of ‘One World One Family’ to engage in a friendly cricket match.

In a historic inauguration, cricket maestros Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh unveiled the new Sai Krishnan Stadium at Sathya Sai Grama. This serves as the global epicentre for service and spiritual activities, under the guidance of Sri Madhusudan Sai, spanning 33 countries.

Leveraging the power of sports to unite, the friendly T20 match aimed to spotlight brotherhood, emphasising the common thread of humanity that binds us all. Although pitted against each other, Sachin’s team, ‘One World,’ and Yuvraj’s team ‘One Family,’ played with a sense of unity and joy, showcasing the true essence of sportsmanship. The formidable line-up included cricketing stalwarts such as Naman Ojha, Upul Tharanga, Alviro Petersen, S Badrinath, Ashok Dinda, Ajanta Mendis, Harbhajan Singh, Monty Panesar, RP Singh, Danny Morrison, Parthiv Patel, Md Kaif, Darren Maddy, Alok Kapali, Romesh Kaluwitharana, Jason Krejza, Muthiah Muralidaran, Makhaya Ntini, Chaminda Vaas, Venkatesh Prasad, and the dynamic Pathan brothers – Irfan and Yusuf.

The event drew over 150 dignitaries and around 3,500 spectators, including students benefiting from free education at schools established by the Sri Madhusudan Sai Global Humanitarian Mission.

Expressing his gratitude, Sachin Tendulkar remarked, “It’s an honour to be part of this special occasion. Standing alongside Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, I applaud his vision and global contribution. Organiser of the event, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar added, “Sports has the power to inspire and unite. Initiatives like these, extending beyond the boundaries of cricket, reflect the true spirit of humanity. Congratulations to everyone who readily came forward to promote social responsibility and philanthropy through this beautiful game of cricket.”

Sri Madhusudan Sai, founder of the Sri Madhusudan Sai Global Humanitarian Mission, shared, “‘One World One Family Cup’ is aimed at fostering awareness about embracing all as our own. This friendly match will be an annual affair, embodying the spirit of sportive sportsmanship, fraternity, and cooperation. The future plan includes establishing a multi-faceted coaching centre with a badminton academy, a world-class swimming pool, an archery academy, and more for the less privileged. Sports, as an inclusive platform, aims to nurture young talent and provide equal opportunities to every child interested in sports.”

The presence of iconic members from the legendary 1983 Cricket World Cup team added to the excitement of the event. They not only witnessed the friendly match but also expressed their solidarity for the noble cause of ‘One World One Family.’

The valedictory session, held at Premamrutham Hall, began with a captivating performance by the Sai Symphony Orchestra. Sri Madhusudan Sai presented awards to outstanding players: Best Batsman – Darren Maddy from England, Best Bowler – Chaminda Vaas from Sri Lanka, Best Fielder – Mohammad Kaif from India, and Man of the Match – Alviro Petersen from South Africa, showcasing the diverse international talent and their support for this match.

Sachin Tendulkar accepted the One World One Family Cup trophy on behalf of his team, One World, which emerged victorious in the friendly game. Additionally, two key initiatives were launched to empower grassroots sports talent in India: the ‘Sports for All’ initiative led by Sachin Tendulkar and the ‘Sunil Gavaskar Cricket Academy.’ As a gesture of encouragement, Sachin Tendulkar and Sri Madhusudan Sai presented sports kits to a few children, inspiring them to pursue sports.

Amidst cheers of ‘One World One Family,’ the friendship match served its purpose of promoting unity and collective joy.
