Reimagining Indian Higher Education: Highlights from the All India Vice-Chancellors’ Conference 2025
Under the divine supervision of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, the All India Vice-Chancellors’ Conference 2025 was held on the tranquil campus of Sri Sathya Sai University of Human Excellence. More than fifty Vice-Chancellors, spiritual leaders, academicians and policymakers were brought together at this national academic gathering to reflect on India’s educational path and determine its future via humane, value-based education.
Celebrating Educational and Cultural Excellence
The conference began with spiritual invocations and a video showcasing the expansive humanitarian outreach of the university, which ranges from free education initiatives to free paediatric cardiac hospitals, uplifting rural India.
Students with outstanding academic achievements and institutions contributing to Vedic scholarships, teachings, and culture preservation were honoured with the prestigious Sri Sathya Sai Bharat Sanskriti Samman Awards. These honours reinforced the importance of cultural continuity in contemporary education.
Visionary Addresses and Thought Leadership
The inaugural session featured powerful addresses. Venerable Hadapanoda Niwathapa Thero of Sri Lanka reminded delegates,
“ You are the heart and brain of this world. You navigate the world, ladies and gentlemen. You create the world.”
Professor Rajasekaran Pillai praised the vision of the event, stating,
“It is not human excellence; it is humane excellence we are witnessing here.”
Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai spoke about the importance of compassionate, human-centric education in his benedictory address. Quoting incidents from the Holocaust, he cautioned,
“ Help your students become human. Your efforts must never produce learned monsters, skilled psychopaths, educated illiterates.”
He urged Vice-Chancellors to instil spiritual, social, and humane principles in their institutions and reflected,
“It may begin in a few universities, but I am certain it will become a normal thing in time.”
Technical Dialogues and Collaborative Action
Technical sessions were also held over two days. Strategies for value-based education, the decline of humanness in education, and assessment models such as Human Excellence Quotient (HEQ) were discussed during these sessions. Esteemed speakers, including Prof. Sandeep Sancheti, Prof. JLN Sastry, and Prof. Pankaj Mittal, recommended the blending of spirituality and science to nurture responsible, compassionate citizens.
In a special dialogue, Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai reaffirmed,
“Our education system must provide students the opportunity to pursue what they are born to pursue and not do something else.”
He assured institutional support for universities willing to lead this transformation.
Cultural Presentation: Triveni – A Spiritual Symphony
On the evening of 8th June 2025, a spiritually uplifting cultural performance called “Triveni” celebrated the union of Veda (spiritual knowledge), Nada (music), and Nritya (dance). The event was conceptualised by Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai and choreographed by Dr. Revathi Ramachandran. It highlighted the spiritual and artistic legacy of India. The audience felt spiritually uplifted as the event concluded with peace chants.
A Resounding Conclusion and Shared Resolve
On 9th June 2025, the session featured insights from prominent personalities such as Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Prof. T.K. Karbamon, Dr. Sonal Mansingh, and Shri Tejasvi Surya. The MP from Bangalore South, Shri Tejasvi Surya, observed,
“The point of education must be to free one’s mind from all kinds of conditioning, to make it think critically, and to develop an insatiable hunger to understand the true nature of the world.”
As the conference came to an end, Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai urged education authorities to adopt and embrace humane, value-based education.
