Navaratri at Sathya Sai Grama as a Catalyst for Spiritual Awakening and Unity
The sacred nine days of Navaratri are always celebrated with great reverence across India, but at Sathya Sai Grama, these days unfolded into a unique confluence of devotion, cultural heritage, and spiritual awakening. Each day was filled with vibrant rituals, profound discourses, uplifting cultural programmes, and inspiring recognitions, echoing the central theme of “One World One Family.”
From the worship of the Divine Mother in her fierce and gentle forms, to the recognition of leaders shaping India’s destiny, the celebrations created a holistic experience that nourished both the soul and society.
Worship of the Divine Mother
The sanctified grounds of Sathya Sai Grama reverberated with chants and prayers as rituals were offered to the Divine Mother in her various forms — Kalaratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidhātrī. Each form revealed a new facet of the Divine: the fierce destroyer of darkness, the compassionate bestower of purity, and the divine mother of knowledge and perfection.
Homas like the Ramataraka Homa, invoking the saving grace of Rama Nāma, the Anjaneya Homa, celebrating Lord Hanuman’s devotion and courage, and the Sai Gayatri Homa, filling the air with purity, invoked powerful vibrations of protection and peace. The Dakshinamurthy and Saraswati Homas sought divine blessings for wisdom, clarity, and inner strength, while the Mrityunjaya Homa invoked Lord Shiva for longevity, fearlessness, and liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
Every ritual was accompanied by heartfelt prayers, such as:
“O Mother, consume the seeds of fear, pride, and ignorance within us. Protect us from darkness and bless us with courage, wisdom, and peace.”
Chief Guests and Felicitations
The Navaratri celebrations were graced by eminent personalities whose lives and work embodied the spirit of service and leadership.
Dr Hasmukh Adhia, former Finance Secretary of India and Chairman of GIFT City, was honoured with the One World One Family Global Leadership Award for his visionary role in India’s economic transformation. As an architect of reforms like GST, his contribution has positioned India as a global financial hub. In his address, Dr Adhia reminded all the essence of karma yoga — performing one’s duty with integrity, without negligence or ego.
Justice B. S. Patil, Hon’ble Lokayukta of Karnataka and former Judge of the Karnataka High Court, brought his profound presence to the celebrations. Known for his integrity and landmark judgments, he spoke of constitutional responsibility and the importance of upholding the nation’s culture and values. His message underscored how ethical leadership restores faith in public institutions.
Another moment of recognition came when Sri Chintalapati Srinivasa Raju, Founder of Sri City and iLabs Group, was felicitated with the One World One Family Global Leadership Award. As the visionary behind India’s first integrated smart city and a pioneer in venture capital, he shared that this honour renewed his commitment to service, further inspired by the mission of unity and collective progress.
These addresses reflected not only personal achievements but also the deeper dharmic principle that leadership is service, and service is leadership.
CSR Circle of Honour
The spirit of service was further amplified through the presentation of the CSR Circle of Honour, which recognised organisations combining business excellence with social impact.
- Vedant Motors was honoured for its contributions to nation-building through healthcare and education.
- Nu Tek Instruments Pvt. Ltd., a trusted partner for India’s scientific community, was recognised for advancing research and innovation.
- Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), India’s second-largest oil marketing company, was honoured for its commitment to sustainability, innovation, and community engagement.
- The PoEM Foundation, aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, was felicitated for positively impacting over 200 million lives through education, nutrition, and well-being initiatives.
These recognitions reflected the shared vision that corporate success must walk hand-in-hand with social responsibility.
Know Your Mission
The Know Your Mission segment highlighted inspiring stories from individuals and initiatives rooted in service.
Sri Subojit Throy Mukherji, along with his wife Amruta, shared his experiences from the Sai Swasthya Wellness Centres, emphasising that healthcare must reach people wherever they are — “walking, sailing, or wading through waters if needed.”
The story of SaiSure Nutrition was also shared, a programme that now supports over 10 million mothers and children daily across India, addressing malnutrition with compassion and scale. Mr Bhanu Prasad, Director of SaiSure Nutritions, explained how this initiative has become a beacon of hope across 20 states and 2 union territories.
Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai’s Discourses
At the heart of the celebrations were the soul-stirring discourses of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai, whose words resonated with timeless wisdom and relevance for modern life.
Speaking of Lord Rama, Sadguru explained:
“Rama lived by Dharma — even sacrificing his own comforts for the welfare of his people. If we protect Dharma, that very Dharma will protect us.” He elaborated on the vision of Ramarajya, where selflessness, harmony, and dharma prevailed, and connected it with the dream of Viksit Bharat 2047. Just as Rama inspired a kingdom of noble values, Sadguru envisioned a future India nurturing citizens rooted in truth and service.
On another evening, during the rituals dedicated to Dakshinamurthy and Saraswati, Sadguru reflected on the power of silence:
“Silence is not emptiness — it is the eternal mantra, the substratum of all sound. Through silence, we hear the voice of God within.”
Later, while explaining the depth of the Mrityunjaya mantra, he clarified:
“This mantra grants liberation not from death, but from the fear of death. Fear arises from a wrong understanding. When one realises the immortal nature of the Self, all fear disappears.”
As the Uma Maheshwara Temple stood on the threshold of its sacred inauguration, Sadguru reminded devotees:
“This temple is not merely built by human hands, but by the will of the Divine itself. The deities have ordained it, and they will always be present here.”
His words transformed rituals into living lessons of dharma, courage, and divine grace.
Cultural Programmes
Each evening of the One World One Family World Cultural Festival brought with it the power of art as a spiritual offering.
The Mysore Brothers, Vidwan Mysore Nagaraj and Dr Mysore Manjunath, presented a spellbinding Carnatic recital. Accompanied by Sri Neyveli B Venkatesh on the Mridangam, Vidwan G Guru Prassana on the Kanjira, and Sri Kiran Sathyanarayana on the Tanpura, their music wove intricate ragas into devotional surrender.
The following evening, Pandit Niladri Kumar, a fifth-generation sitar maestro, graced the stage. Supported by Sri Satyajit Talwalkar on tabla, Sri Shikhar Naad Qureshi on percussion, and Mr Alstan Remedios on keys, his recital blended classical precision with soulful innovation, creating a soundscape that transcended boundaries.
The celebrations concluded with the legendary Pandit M. Venkatesh Kumar, Padmashree and Rajya Sangeetha Vidwan awardee, whose Hindustani recital left the audience spellbound. Steeped in the traditions of the Kirana and Gwalior gharanas, his voice carried the fragrance of bhakti, merging discipline with heartfelt devotion.
These evenings reminded all that music, when offered in bhakti, is itself a pathway to the Divine.
A Festival of Unity and Dharma
As the nine days of Navaratri drew to a close at Sathya Sai Grama, what remained was not just the memory of rituals and programs, but the living presence of the Divine Mother. Sadguru’s discourses inspired courage and clarity, the honoured guests were reminded of duty and integrity, the cultural programs elevated hearts into devotion, and the CSR recognitions showcased the power of service in action.
The celebrations embodied the eternal message: Though we may be different in form and expression, we are all parts of the same Divine consciousness. In the words of Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai:
“May the spirit of Ramarajya take root again, grow into a vast tree, and inspire the world by producing noble souls like Rama.”
Truly, Navaratri at Sathya Sai Grama was a living reminder of dharma, devotion, and unity — guiding humanity toward the vision of One World, One Family.
