The Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in Sri Lanka recently commemorated a significant milestone with over 1,700 cardiac catheter interventions, reflecting its dedication to providing high-quality free healthcare services. This super-specialty hospital was established in 2022 under the visionary guidance of Sri Madhusudan Sai to address the increasing number of cardiac cases in the country and provide accessible healthcare to those in need.

The ceremony commenced with a heartfelt welcome address by Mrs. Penny Jayawardena, Chairperson of the Sri Sathya Sai Karuna Nilayam Foundation. Looking back on the hospital’s growth despite various challenges, Mrs. Jayawardena acknowledged that each hurdle was cleared through the collective support of the community and the resilience of the medical team.
Dr. Ramesh Rao, Medical Director of Sanjeevani Hospital, provided an insightful overview of the hospital’s activities. He detailed the outpatient department (OPD) statistics and the impressive number of successful cardiac catheter interventions, addressing the hospital’s vital role in addressing cardiac health in the region.
Dr. C. Sreenivas emphasised the profound impact of the hospital’s work, stating, “Saving 1,700 lives goes beyond the individual; it represents 1,700 families that have been given a second chance at life.” His poignant remarks underscored the broader community implications of the hospital’s mission.
Adding a personal touch to the proceedings, Dr. MSM Jabir, Medical Superintendent of Base Hospital in Kathankudy, shared his unique experience as both a cardiologist and a patient. He recounted the moment his own student diagnosed him and placed a stent, a life-changing intervention that filled him with gratitude. Dr. Jabir expressed a heartfelt desire to contribute to Sanjeevani Hospital, emphasising the hospital’s role in giving him a new lease on life.
Mrs. Navalogini Yasotharan, the mother of three-year-old Master J. Aharneesh, also took the stage to share her emotional journey at the hospital. With deep gratitude, she recounted how the staff alleviated her fears and treated both her and her son with the utmost care, as if they were part of their own family.
As an expression of appreciation, tokens of love were presented to five young patients and three adult patients who had successfully undergone interventions. This gesture resonated with the spirit of care and compassion that defines Sanjeevani Hospital.
In a fitting tribute, doctors who played pivotal roles in these life-saving interventions were felicitated, acknowledging their unwavering dedication and expertise.
Sri Madhusudan Sai, the revered figure at the heart of these celebrations, addressed the gathering, encouraging the staff to continue their noble work. His inspiring words emphasised the importance of compassion and dedication in healthcare. He also announced his plan to return in January for the inauguration of the new operating theatres and intensive care unit (ICU) facility, a promise that adds to the excitement surrounding the hospital’s future advancements.
Sri Madhusudan Sai’s visit to Sanjeevani Hospital not only celebrated a remarkable achievement in healthcare but also inspired hope and commitment to continue providing life-saving interventions to the community.
