The BRNVN National Scholarship Program Convention
Access to education remains a critical challenge for many families, particularly in rural areas where economic barriers significantly contribute to school dropouts. Families often struggle to meet the costs of education, including school fees, uniforms, books, and other essentials. This financial strain disproportionately affects children, especially girls, who are more likely to abandon their studies due to a lack of resources.
To address this growing inequality, Sri Madhusudan Sai, under the aegis of Prashanthi Balamandira Trust in collaboration with Rashtriya Sewa Bharati, launched the Bharat Rashtra Nirman Vidyarthi Nidhi (BRNVN) scholarship scheme to bridge the gap for economically disadvantaged children who lack access to affordable education. The programme seeks to empower these children, providing them with the opportunity to pursue their dreams and break the cycle of poverty.
In this spirit of support and empowerment, the BRNVN Convention was held on October 3, 2024, at Sathya Sai Grama. This significant event brought together active BRNVN volunteers, one beneficiary family from each district, and Jilla or Vibhaga Pramukhs, creating a strong community focused on education and empowerment. By uniting these stakeholders, the convention not only celebrated the achievements of the scholarship scheme but also inspired ongoing efforts to ensure that every child has access to quality education.
The event was honoured by the presence of esteemed guests, including the Chief Guest, Shri Mukunda ji, who serves as the RSS Saha Sara Karyavaaha. Joining him as Guests of Honour were Shri Pannalal Bansali ji, the President of Rashtriya Seva Bharati, and Smt. Renu Pathak ji, the General Secretary of Rashtriya Seva Bharati.
In his speech, Sri Madhusudan Sai emphasised the crucial role of education in national prosperity, stating that a nation flourishes when its children are educated. He highlighted the comprehensive nature of the BRNVN scholarship program, which provides not only education but also nutrition and healthcare to children in need. Sri Madhusudan Sai also touched upon the concept of “vasudhaiva kuṭumbakam” (One World, One Family), extending the vision of service beyond national boundaries to encompass the underprivileged across the globe.

The Impact of the BRNVN Scholarship Scheme
The BRNVN scholarship scheme was launched on November 23, 2021, to combat school dropouts at the primary level. By September 2024, the program had approved over 7,800 scholarships, with nearly 50% going to girls and many benefiting children from single-parent or no-parent households.
This initiative spans all 31 districts and 240 taluks of Karnataka, with dedicated Rashtriya Seva Bharati volunteers playing a crucial role in identifying and supporting students. These volunteers help verify documents, monitor school attendance, and ensure that scholarship funds reach students promptly.
A Vision for Community Upliftment
This initiative aims not only to uplift individual families but also to reduce child labour, child marriage, illiteracy, and poverty within communities. It aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, promoting no poverty, quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities, and partnerships for the goals.
