Annapoorna Trust Launches State-Wide Morning Nutrition Programme for 55 Lakh Karnataka School Children

Bengaluru, February 22, 2024:

The Sri Sathya Sai Annapoorna Trust has partnered with the Government of Karnataka to provide their nutritious SaiSure health mix to 55 lakh students across government and government-aided schools in the state. This new initiative was launched on February 22nd, 2024 by the Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri Siddaramaiah.

The event, held at Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore, was also attended by Annapoorna Trust founder Sri Madhusudan Sai, school children beneficiaries, Education Minister Madhu Bangarrapa and other dignitaries.

In his address, Sri Madhusudan Sai stated, “We believe every child deserves good nutrition, education and health, even if parents cannot afford it. It is society’s responsibility to ensure children get these fundamental rights.”

He further added, “Partnerships between organisations like ours and governments can make a tangible difference to the country’s future – its children.”

The program expands Annapoorna’s reach to 90 lakh undernourished children across India. The Trust has seen immense growth since its small beginning in 2012, when just 50 children were provided hot meals in Karnataka.

Sri Madhusudan Sai highlighted the growing crisis of micronutrient deficiencies, especially across rural India and Annapoorna Trust’s commitment to tackling malnutrition. “The SaiSure health mix aims to provide essential vitamins and minerals to aid children’s growth,” he said.

Echoing the success of schemes like Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya, Sri Madhusudan Sai named the new initiative ‘SaiSure Bhagya’ – a gift of health and nutrition for the state’s children.

The SaiSure mix includes indigenous grains like ragi, that has immunity-boosting properties. Its production and distribution make it a cost-effective solution for tackling malnutrition. Purchasing of grains also empowers organic farmers with livelihood opportunities and sustains traditional agriculture.

This collaborative initiative aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals including Zero Hunger, Good Health and Wellbeing, Quality Education, and Decent Work and Economic Growth.

The event marked a major milestone in Annapoorna’s efforts to nourish children and aid national development through food fortification public-private partnerships.
