A Day of Grace and Graduation: Celebrating Guru Purnima & Convocation at Sathya Sai Grama
On the holy occasion of Guru Purnima 2025, the serene ground of Sathya Sai Grama in Muddenahalli radiated joy and devotion. This profoundly spiritual event, which symbolises the sacred relationship with Guru and his disciples, was made even more remarkable by the fact that it fell on the same day as the 4th Convocation of Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence. The event created an indelible impression on everyone who attended this important celebration since it skilfully combined academic accomplishment with India’s timeless values.
An Assembly of Stalwarts
The convocation was attended by many inspiring personalities. Among the honoured guests were Hadapanoda Niwathapa Thero, Dr C. Sreenivas, Aravinda De Silva, and Dr Sonal Mansingh. Their presence and words of wisdom encouraged students to live lives of compassion, integrity and purposeful living.
Celebrating Contributions of Society
A memorable highlight of the event was the presence of five outstanding people whose contributions left a meaningful impact on society. Sri B.N. Narasimha Murthy was honoured for his lifelong contribution to education and the upliftment of rural areas. Dr. Anil Kakodkar was recognised for his achievements in science and technology. Sri Prakash Padukone, a well-known figure in the field of sports, was acknowledged for his excellence in badminton and dedication to promoting fitness. Renowned playback singer Smt. Kavita Krishnamurti was praised for her contribution to the performing arts and music. Their journey served as a living testament for the students stepping into their future roles in society.
A Proud Moment for the Graduates
This year, 111 students, including 81 undergraduates, 22 postgraduates, and 8 doctoral scholars, completed their academic journey at the University with success. To honour their dedication and commitment, Sri Madhusudan Sai awarded 23 meritorious students with gold medals. This year’s convocation was noteworthy because 77 percent of graduates were young, talented women. Their success reaffirmed the commitment of the Institution to provide education, value and confidence to the daughters of our country, Bharat.
Guidance from Visionary Leaders
The convocation was further enhanced by the inspiring speeches of Dr. C. Sreenivas, the force behind the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani network of hospitals, and Sri B.N. Narasimha Murthy, Chief Mentor of Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam Institutions. Their speeches inspired the students to live a life based on integrity and unselfish service. Both speakers emphasised the importance of value-based education and its role in shaping a compassionate society.
The Sacred Guru-Disciple Bond
Sri Madhusudan Sai addressed the students by stressing the importance of discipleship and having complete faith in one’s Guru. He reminded them that true education is not only in knowledge but in the courage to follow the Guru’s guidance without hesitation or fear. “To walk without fear, without questioning what lies ahead — simply because your Guru is guiding you — is the highest form of Guru Dakshina,” he said, eloquently expressing this feeling. Additionally, he urged students to live up to the ancient Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which holds that “All Family is One.”
